The journey of Joseph and Mary to the Stable

The journey of Joseph and Mary to the Stable

Am I ready, O Lord?
(a contemporary prayer poem suitable to say as preparation for Christmas Day)

Am I ready, O Lord?
Yes the presents are wrapped,
And yet, can I truly receive?
The gift of your birth
Of heaven on earth
Can I unwrap now all that this means?

Am I ready, O Lord?
Yes the home is adorned,
And yet, can I truly believe?
The new light that came,
To shine love and bring grace,
Can I decorate my life with these things?

Am I ready, O Lord?
Yes, the meal is prepared,
And yet, can I truly feast?
The table is laid.
Will I take my place,
And know I deserve all You give?

Am I ready, O Lord?
Or am I confused by the gifts,
And the lights and meal?
So I'll pause, take some time.
I'll pray for a while and hold You,
And feel Your life breathe.

Am I ready, O Lord?
Yes, I'm resting in You,
And the gift of Your Kingdom to me.
I bathe in the light of Your hope to the world.
It's Your love
That completes Christmas Eve.

Love Came

(the prayer poem in the film above)

Love came, held safely within a gentle womb
All the truth, majesty, and creativity of a living God
Poured into a tiny heart
Making a quiet entrance in a dark and uninviting shack
Just one star shone anew as a handful of people were brought
Led by angelic voices, and open hearts
A young mother
A faith-filled father
Men of wisdom who searched for truth
And a group of humble herdsmen
They came to bow before a new life
And acknowledge that the rescuer had arrived
That the Word of God had come alive
And that the extraordinary transformation of heaven and earth
Had begun

(Poem by Julie Palmer, c. 2011)

Dwell at Christmas

Dwell album cover from Prayerscapes

In this season of giving, it is hard sometimes to cut through the commercial trappings, rise above the “perfect Christmas” expectations and truly connect with loved ones to give a gift that is really yearned for. We (like most creatives) sometimes find it hard to “push” our own work, to believe that our music can Read More

A Beautiful Prayer

Beautiful Tree Branches hanging low down

I think one of our deepest longings as humans is to know that there is a purpose for our lives, that we have a role to play in this world. Thankfully as Christians we can be certain that life isn’t just a random series of events. God the creator of the earth and the heavens Read More

An Ancient Celtic Blessing

hand in sunlight

“May the Road Rise Up To Meet You” is a beautiful old Celtic blessing. Blessings are a gift and ancient ones like these help us to become open channels for the fragrance of Christ to surround those we give out to. I love the references to creation – the sun, the wind, the rain – Read More
